Cottage Knits has a variety of classes that will interest you whether you are a seasoned knitter or are planning to knit your first project. Our  experienced teachers will give you the attention you need to finish each project successfully.

Knitalongs

knitalong n. Any organized event where people knit together for a common purpose or goal.(from Knitalong by Larissa Brown and Martin John Brown)

(All Knitalongs at the Cottage are FREE of charge with purchase of project supplies)

Colts Scarves  July 9 and August 13 2-4pm

     Join the Hoosier state in knitting blue and white scarves for the Super Bowl 2012 volunteers.  Organizers hope to have over 8,000 handknit scarves donated.  Support YOUR Indianapolis Colts!

Daytime Squares  July 15, August 6  2-4pm

     Only two sessions remaining in our four part series.  Participants knit 6-7" squares for later assembly into a one-of-a-kind afghan, lap robe or scarf.  Three new patterns each week.

Evening Squares  July 12 and 28, August 9 and 25  7-8:30pm

    Participants recieve two patterns per month for 9-12" sampler squares.  Expand your stitch repetoire with this very social knitalong. 

Knit Your Bit--Helmet Liners for our soliders

Wednesdays and Fridays in July 1-4:30

     Pattern provided for much appreciated helmet liners.  Made of wool, these liners protect our soldiers from extreme cold as well as fire.  Knit your bit for our soliders stationed in remote parts of the world.

Class Policy

Your payment reserves your seat in the class.   You may pay in person or call with a credit card number.  Some classes are offered before and after regular shop hours.  Prior registration is required for these sessions.  Classes offered during regular business hours are limited to a number of seats available, depending on class and instructor request.  Early registration is advised.

Your support is very much appreciated at Cottage Knits. Your class fees pay the instructor and your purchase of materials here help pay the rent.

Birthday Parties for Kids ~ let us do the planning, shopping and teach your guests to knit.  It's a popular choice for kids...and their mom's.

Mommy and Me                         

One session:  July 21 9-9:45am

Cost: $5  materials included

   Moms, grandmas, aunts and caregivers, bring your 2-4 year old for a lovely morning out.  We'll lock YOU in the back room for some peace, quiet and social knitting while we lead your toddler through the wonderful world of introductory fiber arts.  You'll leave refreshed, your little one will leave dirty.

Real Men Knit

One session:  August 19 6-7:30

Cost:  $10 plus materials; refreshments provided.

    Seriously.  Guys, you started it all hundreds (some say thousands) of years ago.  You may as well pick it back up...it's in your DNA.  You'll learn to knit a scarf that will make the women in your life weep and make your friends doubt your sanity.  But you'll have so much fun trying!!

    Already knit?  Come support your fellow men...it's a guy thing.

Learn to Knit a Felted Bag

     Option 1: Two sessions:  July 10, second session by appointment.  Cost $25 plus materials.

     Options 2: July 22 and 29  6-7:30

Cost: $20.00 plus materials

     New knitters wanted!  A perfect tote for back to school or grocery shopping...best of all--YOU made it! 

Beginning Socks

Three sessions:  July 12, 26, August 2

Time:  5:15-6:30 (Second session is 5:15-8)

Cost: $35 plus materials

   Master a basic sock pattern using double point needs combinations of knitting and purling you've never imagined!  If you can knit socks, you can knit anything!

Felted Clogs

Option 1:  July 13, 20  5-7pm

Option 2:  August 21, 28 1-3

Cost: $25 plus materials

     A great gift idea for everyone on your list.  These durable slippers are felted to fit and are sure to please! 

Blanket Mania

Two sessions (pick two dates):  July 12 and 21, August 4

Cost: $20 plus materials

     Choose from the Car Seat Cozy, the Linus Blanket or the ever popular Mitered Square blanket. 

Special Mitered Square Class July 24 and 31 from 9-10am. 

Magic Loop Mini Mittens

One session:  July 15  6-7:30

Cost: $15 plus materials

    This adorable little project is a great way to use leftover sock yarn AND learn a new technique! These delightful mini knits make great tie-ons for the perfect gift wrap or knit a bunch for the Christmas tree.

Reality Knitting:  What happens off-camera!

One Session:  July 19  5:30-7:00

Cost:  $15

    Fix dropped stitches, switch your knits and purls without frogging your work and learn some basic finishing techniques.  Bring lots of questions and any messed up work you may have!

Felt a Christmas Tree

Two sessions:  July 24 and 31  2-4pm

Cost: $20 plus materials

     Make a whole grove for all your holiday decorations!  This project knits fast, felts faster and leaves plenty of time for deciding how to decorate!

Grandma Corn's Baby Sweater

Two sessions:  August 4, 11, 25  5:30-7

Cost:  $30 plus materials

    An heirloom baby pattern for an adorable little infant sweater. 

Earflap Hat

Two sessions:  August 6 and 13  12-2pm

Cost:  $20.00 plus materials

     A trendy, ultra warm hat.  Knit in school colors, this is the perfect football season accessory!

Yarn to Dye For

Two sessions:  August 7 and 14  3-4

Cost:  $10 plus materials

    You asked for it...you got it!  Dye your own yarn using yummy flavors of Koolaid.  Come back for session two to knit your creation!  Basic hat or scarf pattern provided...beginners welcome!

Designer Baby Hat

Two sessions:  August 7 and 14 12:30-2:30

Cost:  $20 plus materials

     A small project for busy moms and grandmas who desparately want to knit for the baby! 

Christmas Stocking

Two Sessions:  August 10 and 24  6-7:30

Cost:  $25 plus materials

   Create a one-of-a-kind Christmas stocking.  Continue a family tradition or start a new one.

Butterfly Shawl

Two sessions:  August 14 and 28 10:30-12:30

Cost:  $25 plus materials

   This beautiful shawl is easy to knit but looks like complicated lace.  Suitable for most yarn weights, this pattern is especially pretty in variegated or striping yarns. 

Handwarmers

Option 1:  Cabled Handwarmers, August 21 and 28 3-5pm; Cost: $20  (Intermediate Knitters)

Option 2:  Drop Stitch Handwarmers, August 26, 5:30-7:30; Cost: $15 (Intermediate Knitters)

     Fingerless gloves are all the rage.  Knit for yourself or a friend!  Great stocking stuffer!

Felted Messenger Bag

Two sessions:  August 17 and 31 5:30-7

Cost: $20 plus materials

     Roomy bag in a popular shape.  An ambitious project for a new knitter but certainly doable!  Makes a great project bag for all your knitting!
